Wheat germ oil improves the activity of the sex glands and is therefore an excellent help in the fight against obesity. If the treatment is supplemented by the intake of Kelpasan, a seaweed preparation, the thyroid and other endocrine glands will also be stimulated. The body weight will be regulated and the general condition of health improved without having to follow a strict diet. Furthermore, it is most gratifying to know that skinny people can normalise their weight with the help of wheat germ oil.

Incidentally, it is marvellous that sufferers from liver and gallbladder disorders can take wheat germ oil very well. My book The Liver, the Regulator of Your Health describes a practical liver diet which will benefit such people, especially if it is supplemented by wheat germ oil.

A few Schlenz baths can dispense with the need for costly hydrotherapy treatment at a spa. Then there is the added advantage of being able to prepare Schlenz baths right in your own home. If you wait until evening for the bath, you can still do some urgent work during the day, and you will feel fresh and energetic the following morning, after a good night’s sleep.

In cases where the initial symptoms of poliomyelitis are present, the fresh hormone treatment recommended by The Nature Doctor (see page 53—4) should be followed up by a Schlenz bath. This can help you to prevent paralysis. Schlenz baths are of equal benefit to those who suffer from multiple sclerosis. They help to prevent the sad complications of this illness, which can make life almost unbearable. In view of the many benefits a course of treatment with Schlenz baths can give, this method deserves to be much better known and utilised than it actually is.

Black or Spanish Radish (Raphanus sativus) The black or Spanish radish is the best possible liver medicine you can have right in your home. But you should not eat too much of it, or else it will be harmful. Taken frequently in small quantities, it can help liver patients to prevent bilious colic and many kinds of digestive problems.

Finely grated radish, sprinkled with raw cane sugar in order to make a syrup, provides a good medicine for chronic bronchial catarrh. To save on the amount of sugar used, first press the grated radish through muslin and then add sufficient sugar to form a thick syrup. Made in this way it should keep for weeks and you can take some every day. This is also an inexpensive and reliable help in the treatment of persistent whooping cough. For those who do not want to take the time to make the syrup, or who are unable to obtain black radishes, radish syrup prepared in much the same way can be bought.

In cases of gallbladder trouble, ten drops of raw radish essence (Raphanus-Perkolat) in a tablespoon of water, taken three times a day, are sufficient to give relief. You may use this radish essence for whooping cough and bronchial catarrh in conjunction with the syrup. Add ten drops to a glass of water, sweeten with honey and sip throughout the day.

It is important to keep Belladonna in your medicine chest; if used at once when needed, many a serious problem can be avoided. The remedy works if there is a threat of meningitis. If grandfather exhibits a suspiciously red face, the same remedy will avert an imminent apoplectic fit. Auntie may be troubled by sudden neuralgic pains, a brother or sister may come home from work with stomach, intestinal, liver, bladder or biliary cramps, or the cramps may be somewhere else in the abdomen — they will all find relief from five drops of Belladonna taken in a small glass of water. This first aid rarely fails. Cramps that develop suddenly, beginning in the anus, are relieved within a few minutes by Belladonna. It has even been effective in cases of bed-wetting.

With respect to dosage, the potency used generally is 4x. Typical Belladonna cases should not receive potencies below 6x.

It is common knowledge that horses derive their strength largely from eating oats. They are nourishing for people too. Whenever we have an upset stomach we most likely take oatmeal gruel or porridge, for this will usually correct the trouble. As a food oats are good for man and beast, but that is not all: oats are also a wonderful remedy. Even in its earliest stages, when the oat plant is just a tall grass, it has remarkable healing powers. Few people realise that when the ears are just beginning to form, when it is juicy and breaking into flower, this green grass is at its richest in avenin, which is unsurpassed as a nutrient for the cells of the nervous system.

You can prepare a perfect nerve food at home simply by putting the flowering oats through a mincer, or by chopping them up in some other way. Cover the green mash with warm water and let it stand for about two minutes. Then strain and sweeten with honey, unrefined sugar, grape sugar or grape concentrate. The green oats can also be put through the mincer together with raisins or currants, then covered with warm water and strained as before. In this way they will be sweetened during preparation.

When the green oat plant is about 40-50 cm (15-20 inches) high it is usable for this oat drink, and is most potent during the flowering period. As long as the grains are juicy the oats can be used for this tonic.
